    The Bumb-Uh-oh

    October 25, 2007

Yep, that’s right the Bumbo has been recalled. Why, you ask. Due to serious head injuries of course. Well, now just wait a minute. I know you want to know how a child’s seat caused head injuries. But let me say this first. It says right on the back of the seat, “WARNING” – “Never use on a raised surface. Never use as a car seat or bath seat. Designed for floor level use only. Never leave your baby unattended as the seat is not designed to be totally restrictive and may not prevent release of your baby in the event of vigorous movement.”. Ok? Ok.

Well the Bumbo is being recalled due to children flipping backwards out of the seats and landing on their heads, because someone didn’t follow the directions. So if you own a Bumbo you can contact Bumbo International at (877)932-8626 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday or visit their web site at www.BumboSafety.com to get an updated warning label and instructional leaflet. In the mean time all Bumbo seats have been pulled from teh shelves until the packaging can me reproduced.

In the mean time if you have a Bumbo please do not put it on the table or counter or in the tub and then WALK AWAY. We all know that as parents we use it in these places. Come on, admit it already. Just be smart about it.

And if you don’t know what a Bumbo is , where have you been for the last two years?

But you can go here, or here to get more information on what happened and when. Notice the date of September 19, 2007  and the fact thet the child was on top of a table. The mom was probably in the room but not right there next to him. I’m sure there will be a law suit if one hasn’t started already, but who’s really to blame.  In my opinion it’s the parents. I think that if the parents can sue Bumbo than the state should be able to pursue child endangerment charges. But that’s just my opinion.

One Down, Forty Bazillion to Go

    October 24, 2007

Or so it seems. I have so many things that I’m trying to work on it’s kinda overwhelming sometimes. I have a birthday gift for my Grandma to start and finish by Thanksgiving, SAJ’s blanket to finish, my brother’s blanket to finish by Christmas (which I’m going to rip out and start again because I just don’t like the way it’s turning out. This will be the second time.), hats for BB and Wito (soft deadline on these), scarf for Blue, Silver, White Swaparooni partner(almost complete), poncho for me with yarn I bought last year, socks for Mom before it starts to get to cold, make Christmas cards, finish my Halloween costume even if I don’t wear it, throws/scarves/hats for Etsy shop, fix SAJ’s Flickr photos (Something I actually want to do as weird as it seems. And no you can’t change your mind about me doing it now that you know what else I need to do.), plus something for each of my parents and Grandma for Christmas gifts (no idea what yet).

So I finally finished a project that should have been started in March when the material was bought. Though I’m kinda glad I didn’t work on it then. It made me itch like crazy. It’s only got 20% wool, but it was enough to drive me bonkers. My hands and anything else that touched it for a long period of time felt like they were on fire. Hopefully it was worth it.

It’s a charcoal gray poncho* for a friend. She bought the yarn when she was here as a birthday gift to herself. It’s a one size fits all pattern, but I’m concerned that it may be too big. It fits me and she’s built more like SAJ. Now I just have to mail it to her before winter comes and goes. (She lives in Maine.)

    So Far So Good

    October 19, 2007

Well the first day of babysitting went well. No meltdowns on either side. SuperChic and JJ got along fabulously. The biggest problem we had was getting them to leave the bedroom door open.

They were very cute together. While in the car they announced that they were going to get married. After that the only time they were separate was if one of them was in the bathroom.  They even shared a goodnight kiss. But don’ttell anyone because it’s a secret.

So today we’re making a cheesecake, cleanin’ house and getting ready to go camping. We’re even taking JJ with us. Since his mom has to be at work at 5am on Saturday it works perfectly. It even covered her and her husband’s babysitting needs for their date night tonight.

It’s going to be one crazy day today.

Oh, I almost forgot. I even finished one of my knitting projects last night.

    Adventures in Babysitting

    October 17, 2007

Tomorrow starts the adventures of babysitting. One of the girls I worked with at THD has been having a problem with her recent babysitter and I said I’d be willing to watch JJ.

I hope things go well. JJ is usually a pretty good kid and how bad can it be, right? I’ll let you know tomorrow.

Shawn has really been wanting me to go back to work for about 20 hours a week. Now, hopefully, I won’t have to. Though I don’t know how much I’ll get for watching JJ.

I let her figure out what she thought was fair. Unlike her other sitter I’m not asking to be paid a flat rate per week no matter how many hours I have JJ. I mean, who wants to pay a sitter for a day that you or the kid is sick and not at their house. I sure don’t. So our agreement is that I get paid for the days that I watch him. This also allows for weeks where she only works 12 hours.

The biggest advantage for her is that I’m willing to watch him on weekends. You can’t work retail and have a sitter that doesn’t work weekends.

So, tomorrow I’m considering my self employed, sort of. If I survive the day, I’ll post about it. Not that there will be anything interesting to post about.

Oh, and in the works is a post about how Shawn and I met. (Inspired by BethanyActually.)
