Ah, being called to the school cos your kids were "bad." Been there, done that. Once because the janitor walked into the boys room and my 4th grade son was standing with 3 other boys ...all of them peeing down the floor drain. (That one was hard not to laugh at in the principal's office.) And once because my daughter got mad at another girl, pushed her in the hall and other girl fell into a display case and broke the sheet of glass. We had to pay for that and had a long talk about consequences of acting out in anger. She was in 3rd grade.

I'm sure there was no malice intended with SuperChic...sometimes things look cool and the kids want to share with their friends. Sounds like you handled it just right. Seriously...taking each child and their personality into consideration before punishment is something only wise Mama's do.

My gosh! I remember being in school and we all had swiss army knives, they were the cool thing to have. We needed them to carve our initials into the school desk and into trees and pic-nic tables at lunch break.
Times sure have changed, though I do understand why!
Your chat with super chic sounded perfect...like she had any intentions of evil, ha,ha;)

Funny, I remember when we all wore Swiss Army knives on our belt loops to school. I know we live in a different world now, but it just seems so strange. Especially because those darn things are so hard to open. We have a few, but I can't open them :)

Oh my goodness. I am glad you guys don't live in Omaha, because the schools there have a ZERO tolerance policy about weapons. SuperChic probably would have been suspended or expelled! I knew a guy in junior high school who took a steak knife to school in his backpack one day because he'd been getting beaten up. He was an honors student who had never been in trouble and who had been getting bullied for weeks and the school hadn't done anything about it. He didn't even use the knife--it fell out when he took some books out of his bag, a teacher saw it, and he got hustled to the principal's office and expelled. Crazy, huh?

I guess it isn't funny at all, but I am laughing a little. I remember the days when it was just expected that all the boys at school would have a pocket knife, so if the teacher needed something opened she'd ask one of the boys. Maybe not at SuperChic's age, but in upper elementary. We freak our kids out way too much about things like that.

In high school most of the guys would have their hunting rifles in the back of their truck. Can you imagine that happening today? One guy even brought his gun into school for a book report *l*.

Oh boy. Fun times for you at the school. Maybe once they meet you they'll be cool with it. I think I know the pocket knife you are talking about and isn't it pretty little? Like a nail file almost?

I also wanted to add that the glow-in-the-dark Care Bear made quite an impression on BB after SuperChic let her sleep with it that one night. She asked for it several nights after that. And she doesn't even usually sleep with a stuffed animal!
