    Day 6

    November 6, 2008

I’m sure Brenda is going to blog about this too, but that’s ok.

The first day of the Estate Sale went fairly well.

Getting the signs out this morning, well that was another story.

Last night we sort of decided where we were going to put the signs and this morning we headed out to put them up. It seemed like it would be easy and unmemorable. Was it easy? Mostly. Was it unmemorable? Definitely not.

It started with forgetting a marker to draw arrows on the signs once we got them up, and of course we didn’t even have crayons in the car or truck to work with. So back to the house we went to get a Sharpie and a roll of tape, just in case. So we get to the first place where we’re going to put up a sign, and some guy drives past and acts like an idiot. Because obviously we weren’t trying to put up signs in our mom clothes and a not-ever-going-to-be-flat-again stomach and were out looking for a man in a mini-skirt and tube top.

All but the last sign that were going on poles went up easily. On the way to put up the last sign it blew out of the back of the truck. This meant that I ran down the street barefoot, holding onto the bottom of my shirt so I didn’t cause an accident with my blindingly white not-ever-going-to-be-flat-again stomach trying to get to the sign before someone ran it over. Which luckily I did. I’m sure Brenda has photos of this event because it was hilarious, but if not just use your imagination, I’m sure you’ll get the picture.

After that everything went fairly smoothly. Most people seemed happy with our prices. The collectors told us our prices were fair, the people who were dealers told us we were overpriced. We knew to expect this, we also know who some of the local buyers are, so were not too worried.

I can’t think of much else that happened today. Well I guess there is one more thing, I didn’t know that the house could have that many people in it at once.

I didn’t blog about it! I meant to, as the whole escapade was hilarious but nope… I do have some photos in my flickr feed. None of you running like a fool on broken glass without your shoes. I wish I had got that one. Good thing i’s permanently burned in my memory. Good times, Thelma!

You know some would call that a ‘white trash’ moment, but I call it FAMILY. Thelma…er…HEATHER, you can totally move to my neck of the woods – you’d fit in like a queen bee right next door to me.

Speaking as a newcomer to Etsy I know that trying to put a price on something is a nightmare, so I’m very admiring of your managing to do it for so many items!
