I was tagged by amusing on life to do another meme, because apparently I tagged her for one that she had already been tagged for.
1. What were you afraid of as a child?
My parents fighting. Lets just say it was really, really bad and leave it at that.
2. When have you been most courageous?
When I stood up to my Dad in high school when he was fighting with my mom.
3. What sound most disturbs you?
The sound of my kids getting spanked. Even when it’s done by me.
4. What is the greatest amount of physical pain you’ve been in?
Giving birth to Ashley.
5. What’s your biggest fear for your children? (or children in general if you don’t have your own)
That I’m doing something wrong as a parent that is going to affect them negatively as an adult.
6. What is the hardest physical challenge you’ve achieved?
Giving birth three times.
7. Which do you prefer: Mountains or oceans/big water?
I prefer mountains. I love the way they look against the skyline. I love the smell of pine trees. I even love the invigorating cold that comes with snow, because I can curl up with my girls and drink hot cocoa.
8. What is the one thing you do for yourself that helps you keep everything together?
Blogging is probably my biggest release. If I’m really stressed out I’ll bake to. Even though baking makes more messes, the process and the end result are calming to me.
9. Ever had a close relative or friend with cancer?
Both of my Grandfathers had cancer. We also had a friend that passed of cancer a few years ago. My Mom’s Dad had cancer from working at a chemical plant before they had warnings posted on everything he was handling. My Dad’s Dad had one lung removed and ultimately died from a tumor in his brain.
10. What are the things your friends count on you for?
A shoulder to lean on. Even at 2 a.m.
11. What is the best part of being in a committed relationship?
Having someone to hold me when I’m upset.
12. What is the hardest part of being in a committed relationship?
Having someone to hold me when I’m upset. Sometimes I just can’t cope and need my space. Then in a little while I can handle being comforted.
13. Summer or Winter? Why?
Definitely winter. The heat of Summer actually makes me physically ill.
14. Have you ever been in a school-yard fight? Why and what happened?
Yes, twice. Someone was picking on my brother and that wasn’t allowed. The first time was off school grounds so I just beat the boy up and went home. The second time was by the tether balls at school. I ended up in the principals office for kicking my brother while trying to protect him. Instead I went home, called my Mom, who called my Dad, who took me back to school. I spent the rest of the day in the office just sitting there. When I got home I got in trouble for leaving school but not for the fight.
15. Why blog?
It’s easier than having a paper journal around. I don’t care who reads it, I just don’t want my kids writing in it. That’s why they each have their own.
16. Did you learn about sex, and/or sex safety from your parents?
Yes, by 9 I knew the basics. All the way through high school I was bombarded with questions by my Dad. I remember coming home from school early one day when I was in JH and he was home for lunch. Oprah was on and she was talking about sex. (Yes my Dad watched Oprah on occasion.) My Dad walked into the kitchen and asked me what the kids at my school called masturbation. He did this a lot, and sometimes it was really uncomfortable. But, I was never able to say I didn’t know what I was getting into.
17. How do you plan to talk to your kids about sex and/or sex safety?
We started talking with Rapunzel about sex in the second grade because of something that happened to her at school. No, I don’t feel that this was too young. And yes, not that she is in the fourth grade I’ve started asking her if kids at school talk about sex. She said yes, I asked her what she heard, corrected it if it was wrong and reminded her that she can always talk to us, her Auntie, or the teachers at school.
18. What are you most thankful for this year?
I’m truly thankful for my family and the strength and love they give me. I know that I could not live a day without them. If it weren’t for them I’d probably be in really bad shape.
I’m not going to tag anyone on this time ’round. But, if you are interested in doing the meme go ahead.
I actually found it helpful being Day 24 of NaBloPoMo. The good thing about this whole thing is that it’s making me want to keep posting everyday. I’m going to try to keep posting daily all the way through the end of the year.
The rules are simple.
- Link back to the person who tagged you.
- Post the rules on your blog
- Tag seven random people and link to them in your blog
- Leave a comment in their blogs letting know they’ve been tagged.
